Arbayeen In Iraq, January 2012

Despite the series of bombings that have hit pilgrims in January 2011, Shiites are still heading for the holy city of Karbala to commemorate Arbayeen. It is part of Ashura, that marks the death of the Imam Hussein Ibn Ali in the Battle of Karbala in 680 A.D. Hussein was the grandson of the Prophet Muhammed, and his battle and death is considered a shaping event for Shiites.
